Turned To The Devil By Akmal Shaukat

Seeking knowledge...to his being equated with the Serpent in Genesis encouraging mankind to partake of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

To encourage individuality and freedom of thought, and the quest to raise one's self up despite resistance, through means such as magic and initiative.

To remove any means by which they are controlled or repressed by others and follow the herd, and reject non-governmental authoritarianism.

Love Marilyn Minter By Akmal Shaukat

Her photographs and works often include sexuality and erotic imagery.

Marilyn Minter has been considering representations and ramifications of glamour for the last thirty years, but it is worth considering just what is connoted by the word. Minter, it seems, defines this concept by the book, or at least intuitively leans toward its etymological truth, which aligns glamour with magic spells and illusory attractiveness—never with fictional ideas that propose glamour as some kind of natural condition. All of which is to say that Minter has been plumbing the depths of (al)chemical beauty (and its breakdowns) for a very long time.

In one of her earliest series of work, a group of black-and-white photographs from the late 1960s, Minter went right to the source—her own mother. Snapping pictures of her aging, substance-abusing, bedridden parent, Minter captured the queasy day-to-day undoings and recastings of physical appearance. Obsessed with tasks of pruning and priming, Minter’s mother, clad in nightgown and propped with pillows, refused to let even a stray eyebrow lay seed. The photographs, at once gorgeous and grotesque, made nearly everyone who saw them so uncomfortable that the artist hid them away in a drawer for the next three decades

In conjunction with her practice of photography, Minter makes paintings (enamel on metal), showing a special interest in Photo-Realist methods of representation. Culling imagery from cooking shows, porn videos, and beauty advertisements, the artist posits a visual continuity between seemingly disjunctive sensual experiences. By intentionally conflating the pleasures of cuisine and cunnilingus, Minter renders straightforward yet ambiguous images that shore up the constructed nature of their meanings.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy: Kanye West

As fatiguing as it is invigorating, as cold-blooded as it is heart-rending, as haphazardly splattered as it is meticulously sculpted, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is an extraordinarily complex 70-minute set of songs. Listening to it... is a laborious process. [...] The 13 tracks... sometimes fuse them together simultaneously. Consequently, the sonic and emotional layers are often difficult to pry apart and enumerate. As the ego and ambition swells, so does the appeal, the repulsiveness, and – most importantly – the ingenuity. Whether loved or loathed, fully enjoyed or merely admired, this album should be regarded as a deeply fascinating accomplishment.

Akmal Shaukat: Q/A

At what age did you begin to consider a career in art and advertising? I wasn’t sure I wanted to be a graphic artist until I entered college. I wasn’t sure what the difference between a graphic artist and an art director was until I started working in advertising. I find many people still don’t know the difference. How did your career unfold? Modelling in a very young age had it’s perks... I kept in touch with good friends in advertising agencies to provide me with some freelance work. I started working with small fashion houses and magazines working on campaigns, leaflet design, product and packaging. How did you discover you had a creative talent for art and advertising? I don’t think there is a moment that you say to yourself, wow, I’m talented. You will know by the feedback you get on your work - if those you respect admire it, if the consumer connects with it. I think it’s easier to find out that you are not talented. What has been your keys to success? As cliché as it sounds: hard work, and lack of fear. A good work ethic. Who were the biggest inspirations for your career? I can’t say that I had any. I never had a mentor. My inspiration comes from contemporary pop culture and my own personal experiences expressed in art form. What do you enjoy most about your job, your career? The challenge. Have you found true love? After a lot growing years and growing pains...I can defiantly say YES.

Lady Gaga: VOGUE.IT

An article which was posted on VOGUE.IT talking about ‘less Lady is a Tramp and more Glamazon Gaga’ Follow Link:

http://www.vogue.it/en/people-are-talking-about/how-vogue-likes-them/2010/11/lady-gaga

Regardless of whether or not she chooses to wear a stunningly beautiful dresses or awfully horrid jumpsuits, Lady Gaga versatile fashionista of Hollywood and global fashion trendsetter. She encourages people to follow her and envy the bold, daring, ‘confidence’ she possesses. And encourages her fans to be themselves.

So, when we look at Gaga’s fashion sense, we are looking not at what she thinks is the best looking, but what she thinks will give the largest psychological response from her audience.
And how the onlookers perception of being oneself as an ‘individual’.

The style of Gaga is expressed from her own sense of style and chooses what she finds influential designers of today... such as Francesco Scognamiglio, Hussein Chalayan, Franc Fernandez who in my opinion are designers revolutionizing fashion today which is contemporary and modern.

Lady Gaga does have a fashion that she sets forth, but even she likes to deviate from what she finds appealing to mix things up.

Going back to the quote ‘less Lady is a Tramp and more Glamazon Gaga’ I think depends on one’s own expressive form and message you are giving and one should keep in mind what is ‘style’ and what is ‘glamour’.

HALLOWOOD 2010

And you thought the New York fashion crowd went to town with its Halloween costumes. The Italian up-and-comer Francesco Scognamiglio sent us these pics from Friday night’s Hallowood Party at the photographer Giampaolo Sgura’s place in Milan. Anna Della Russo (top)—dressed in homage to Lady Gaga in a latex dress from Scognamiglio’s tenth anniversary collection—we’d recognize anywhere, but we never took Marco Zanini and his sister Miki for basketball lovers (below) or Margherita Missoni for a Simpsons fan (above). Who knows, maybe they aren’t. The theme was “America.” Enjoy.

From top, above: Anna Dello Russo and friends; Giovanna Battaglia and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld; Francesco Scognamiglio and Akmal Shaukat; Margherita Missoni; Neil Barrett (center) and friends. Below: Marco and Miki Zanini and friends.
